Born in Cuenca, Ecuador in 1968 this Ecuadorean director released her opera prima How Much Further? in 2006. This first film was well received by audiences and critically acclaimed nationally and internationally.
She began her career as a film-maker as a student at the International Film and TV school in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba in 1991. Further more she has studies in creative writing from the Madrid School of Arts and holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies from the Unviersity of Azuay.
Politically engaged in her native country, Hermida taught at the San Fancisco de Quito University between 1997 and 2007. In 2007 she joined the constitutional assembly that would end up writing Ecuador’s new national constitution.
Her latest film, In the Name of the Daughter, released in 2011 deals with the clash of world views between marxists and the religiously conservative through the eyes of a young girl in the Ecuador of 1976.
