Originally from Santiago, Chile, Marialy Rivas is a young and talented South American director that became known after the success of her first film, Young & Wild (2012).

After abandoning the Escuela de Cine de Chile film school during her third year of studies, Rivas director her first short in 1996 titled Desde siempre that belongs to the Docu-fiction genre. This piece opened the doors to the national and international cinematographic world, winning her a scholarship to finish her film studies in New York.

Upon returning to her native Chile, Marialy Rivas filmed in 2010 another short, Blocks, before taking on the challenge of a full-length movie. Thanks to the success of Young & Wild, Rivas has just released her second film, Princesses, in September of 2015 which undoubtedly tackles themes like sex and death, topics that are always working in this young Latin American director’s mind: “What else other than sex and death? I don’t know what other topics someone could depict. That’s why my movies have always been about these topics.” (www.paula.cl: my translation)
