Claudia Llosa was born in Lima, Peru on November 15th, 1976. She pursued her studies in film at the University of Lima, New York University (NYU) and the Escuela de Artes y Cine (TAI) of Madrid. She worked in the advertising industry in Barcelona and currently combines her work directing films with the more commercial side of creating TV commercials. She is likely the most acclaimed contemporary Peruvian film director. Her film The Milk of Sorrow, starring Magaly Solier, received the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2009 and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
